Please note: Professional opinions and advice cannot be given over the phone or email. It is highly recommended for the perspective patient to make an appointment to come in and complete a medical history form, plus have a brief consultation. The doctor will then customize a treatment plan to suit the perspective patient's needs.
Separate additional services offered, other than spinal manipulation, which are optional but may be necessary to further help the patient:
1. Graston technique involving soft tissue/muscle scraping with medical grade stainless steel tools that are known as instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) - great for breaking up adhesions and clearing up scar tissue - improving the natural healing process. Dr. Yen is a Graston Technique provider with official GT instruments. Please note this is a self-paying service as most insurances do not cover Graston.
2. Extra time for thorough medical records review
3. Interferential current (electric stimulation).
4. One-on-one doctor assisted neuromuscular re-education of proprioceptive signals from mechanoreceptors of the joints and muscles.
Please note that this office is setup with an open therapy room and does not have private individual treating rooms.
Re: Insurance:
Since 2014, this office has been mostly out of network and did not handle any insurance billing for chiropractic related services other than med pay through your own auto insurance policy based out of medical necessity following a motor vehicle collision and GEHA.
As of March 2022, we are in-network with Aetna. We found most Aetna patients have a patient responsibility of anywhere from $10 to $60 a visit. Some plans will only cover an initial exam and spinal adjustment, other plans may cover extra services such as ultrasound therapy, electrostimulation therapy, and intersegmental traction. Often we won't know if there are any other services covered beyond the spinal adjustment until we receive an explanation of benefit (EOB) in the mail, which happens after submitting a claim for the first visit on your behalf. Rest assured, you won't be charged extra after your office visit. Availity is the portal we use to at least determine if there are any copay or deductibles, but because of the contracted discounted rates to be an Aetna provider, chiropractic visits don't really offset too much of the balance in a plan with a high deductible.
Although we are out of network, please keep in mind that some insurance companies such as Senior Dimensions will reimburse you for your out-of-pocket expenses. At the end of your office visit, simply ask our front desk for a copy of a receipt for insurance reimbursement purposes, and then submit the receipt with the ICD-10 for the visit directly to your insurance company.
If you are considered a Medicare beneficiary who has had a recent slip and fall injury or have an active work comp claim, a referral must be given to have you seek care at another facility instead of this one. We don't bill Medicaid, Culinary, Humana or TRICARE. If we're out of network with your insurance, not only will they not cover any of the office visit, we can't help offset deductibles.
Although we do not work with most private insurances, we would still like for you to be aware that when seeking to use your own health insurance for chiropractic care, with any office, companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Sierra Health and Life, and United Healthcare may require preauthorization before you make your first chiropractic office visit.
There are no out-of-pocket surprise medical bills at our office. We can go over your EOB if you ever do receive one and have any questions or concerns.
Financial hardship for chiropractic related services:
May be considerable on an ability to pay basis. Financial hardship will not apply if the patient has an active injury claim.
